The CREW Member Spotlight highlights someone who is making an impact in the CREW Atlanta community. For the most recent Member Spotlight, we selected Heidi Swygert, Development Associate, KDC Real Estate Development & Investments.
CREW Atlanta: How long have you been at your current position?
Heidi Swygert: 3 years
What made you decide to work in the field you are in?
I interned for a one-man law firm while in high school and his primary practice was real estate. Also, my dear friend, Marcia Jenkins, was a real estate broker and I loved hearing about her career. When I went to Georgia Southern I made the choice to major in finance with an emphasis in real estate. I knew I wanted to be in real estate at a very early age, which is not typical.
How do you think your profession may change in the next 10-20 years?
With technology ever evolving I think all professions will change. However, real estate development is about relationships and visions and it will always take human capital for those two reasons – thank goodness!
When and how did you join CREW?
I joined CREW in spring of 2016. The primary reason I joined was my boss told me to do so – but I also wanted the opportunity to network and collaborate with other females in commercial real estate. I am very grateful to work for a company that encourages women.
I am single with a fur child named Scrappy. My family is from Elberton and I am very close to all of them. My mother is my rock.
If you had to pick a different job, what would it be?
My dream job would be doing philanthropy work with animals. I am a huge supporter of several animal rescue groups and my guy, Scrappy, is a rescue. Also, I would own a fitness center. Health and wellness are very important to me as well.
Craziest job you ever had?
Working in a hair salon – oh the drama!
Tell us one thing people might be surprised to know about you.
I am terrified of heights, but sky diving was on my bucket list. I checked it off June 2017.
If you were a brand, what would your personal slogan be?
“Goals are Dreams with Deadlines.” Orange Theory Fitness is where I learned that and I love it.
If you could only have one book to read the rest of your life, what would it be?
Joel Osteen – “Live everyday like it is Friday.” The daily passages are great for personal encouragement.
If you could have a freeway billboard sign with any content you wanted on it, what would it say?
Be kind – you have no clue what the person you are engaging with is handling.
Hobbies/interests? What do you do to relieve stress?
I love to exercise and enjoy a glass of wine – not at the same time.
Other than your career, what other skill would you like to develop most in life?
Public speaking – I would love to master it. It is such an innate ability for those that are good at it, but it is an ongoing effort for me.
