The CREW Member Spotlight highlights someone who is making an impact in the CREW Atlanta community. For the most recent Member Spotlight, we selected Lisa White, Principal, WHB.

CREW Atlanta: How long have you been at your current position?

Lisa White: I have been in the commercial furnishings industry for 20+ years. My business partner and I decided to join forces and open a furniture dealership in July 2017. As we like to say, “we’ve been rocking & rolling” for 10 months now.

What made you decide to work in the field you are in? 

This is funny, as this field chose me. I majored in computer science in college and when I relocated to Atlanta with my parents upon finishing school, I worked a temporary position at a furniture dealership. Ball Stalker, the dealer I temped with, asked me if I would be interested in a permanent position and of course, I said yes. Several years later, I now own one!

How do you think your profession may change in the next 10-20 years? 

The online presence of acquiring goods and services is so prevalent now and will continue to be. Our business will approach the market demands and we will offer our resources as needed to our clients in this manner. I love direct interaction with people, but for those who prefer it differently, we will accommodate them.

When and how did you join CREW?

I was a serial lunch guest attending the monthly luncheons for a year or more before I joined. Many of the members joked with me when I attended the CREW orientation and/or sat at the new members table since they thought I had been a member. My official joining date of CREW was December 2015.

Hometown? 

Queens, New York. I am an apple-peach.

Family? 

I am married. My husband Mason and I have a 25-year-old son named Jelani and a 20-year-old daughter named Journey. Actually, my entire family relocated to Georgia in the early 90s. I have a brother and sister, three nephews, one niece, two grandnieces and one grandnephew that still live here.

Dream job? If you had to pick a different job, what would it be?

I love to travel and eat. To experience different cultures and immerse myself in their world is such a wonderful experience and life lesson. I find when I travel, food becomes the common denominator that brings us all together. I would become the next Anthony Bourdain or Guy Fieri, minus the television aspect.

Craziest job you ever had? 

My first internship in high school was at a shoe distributorship in New York. I did administrative duties (typing, filing, etc.)  And yes, I have just dated myself! On occasion, they would ask me to “model” the sample shoes. It was fun and I am still a shoe connoisseur to this day.

Tell us one thing people might be surprised to know about you.

One of my bucket list activities is to swim; not float or wade in the water, but dive into the water and press forward. The challenge is my fear of water.

If you were a brand, what would your personal slogan be?

If you could only have one book to read the rest of your life, what would it be? Or what is the most influential book you have ever read?

If it’s fiction, my favorite author is Victoria Christopher Murray, anything by her. Non-fiction book would be John C. Maxwell “Make Today Count.”

If you could have a freeway billboard sign with any content you wanted on it, what would it say?

Peace is Priceless.

Hobbies/interests? What do you do to relieve stress?

I really enjoy walking either through my neighborhood or on an indoor track while listening to music; however, my true stress reliever is dancing.  There are certain songs (from a variety of genres) that will have me moving and all is right with the world.

Other than your career, what other skill would you like to develop most in life?

There are a few skills I wish I had learned from my mom, and two in particular were her delicious chicken and dumplings recipe and her mastery of sewing clothes without a pattern to follow. When I was a little girl, my mom would sew dresses for me to wear to school and I rarely wore the same dress twice. She was amazing!

Lisa has served a vast client base which includes Fortune 100 and 500 companies, the federal government, medical institutions, and colleges & universities in creating distinguished facilities.

 Lisa’s background includes sales and marketing within corporate & federal sectors. She promotes educational events for upcoming professionals and training/motivational activities with clients.  Her current participation in organizations include CREW, Women In Defense and Lipstick & Heels.
