The ACE Committee hosted another awesome and sold-out members only event in mid-August at the beautiful Haworth Showroom at Terminus in Buckhead. This year’s extra special roundtable included one of our very own Power Men and five leading Power Women. Each speaker brought a unique story of their journey towards success and leadership.
Fifty CREW members had the honor to engage with six leaders in commercial real estate including: Jessica Doyle, Senior Vice President of Landlord Services; Lisa Gordon, CEO of Habitat for Humanity; Sarah Silvio, President of Constructive Ingenuity; Ellen Smith, Partner at Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein, LLP; Stephen Wells, Principal and Studio Director of Hendrick, Inc.; and Myrna White, Director of Public Affairs for Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
This was my first Power WoMen’s roundtable and I really enjoyed the casual format. CREW kicked the event off with a fun cocktail reception where attendees had the opportunity to mingle and network before the roundtable event started.
We then gathered in six small groups in a comfortable atmosphere where real conversations took place with our fantastic Power Women and Man. To keep the conversations flowing, the speakers rotated every 45 minutes so that CREW members could engage with three different leaders, ask questions, and share a laugh or two along the way.
There are a few key take-aways I learned from the event and wanted to share.
- Learn to ask questions and that is O.K. to say no at times
- Take a pause when needed to regroup
- Treat others well and rewards will follow
- Find a mentor you connect with early in your career
- Read books and learn from other successful leaders
- Volunteer your time to causes that are near and dear to your heart
- Be tough, have faith, and persevere!
- Oh, stop and smell the flowers sometimes (even if you feel the need to deliver yourself a bouquet!)
Thank you to our awesome sponsors (Haworth, Cousins, Signarama, and Rose Paving), volunteers, and speakers!
